THE POSITION:
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
The Senior Exploration Geoscientist will be responsible for:
· Conducting all aspects of prospect generation and evaluation, reserve calculation, risk
& value assessment processes and documenting results.
· Conducting detailed integrated geological/geophysical analysis including regional and
prospect level structural, reservoir, seal and source rock mapping, cross-section
construction, analogue field and hydrocarbon occurrence evaluations, hydrocarbon
systems maps, geomodel construction, etc.
· Initiating and overseeing detailed studies performed by internal and external expert
consultants.
· Input to planning and oversight of drilling/seismic operations including geological
prognoses for drilling programs, and preparation of final operations and post operational
reports.
· Contributing to tactical and strategic decisions with technical, operational, and economic
impact within the team and across departments.
· Contributing and participating in internal peer review and management presentations and,
if necessary, as the company’s technical representative to partners.
· Monitor and report budget/capital spending related to their projects.
· Audit/oversee/coach the work and development of less senior geoscientists on the team.
· The Sr. Geologist/Geological Advisor will report to the Exploration Manager for the Gulf
Coast.
Education, Experience, Technical Qualifications:
· MS in Geology or BS with equivalent work experience.
· Minimum of 15 years of hands-on prospect generation experience in a variety of
structural and depositional basin settings (viz: clastics, carbonates, salt) and prospect
types.
· Expert in geologic mapping techniques, log interpretation and correlation, knowledge of
advanced structural analysis techniques, sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology and
petrography, hydrocarbon systems and geochemical analysis, working knowledge of 2D
and 3D seismic interpretation, pressure and temperature analysis, geological prognoses for
well design, risk and reserve valuation (petrophysics).
· Ability to deliver above products using high quality, integrated subsurface maps and
written reports.
· Experience in geological and geophysical project design and field operations.
· Experienced with various computer systems, including UNIX and/or PC based systems
(e.g.: Landmark, Petrel, Arcview), for subsurface interpretation.
