Australia’s capital city is the center of energy research and private energy investment. Knowledge and money are a powerful combination, and in Sydney it is being used to advance renewable energy and low carbon technologies and best practices. It’s not like Australia has just begun to realize the benefits of clean technologies. The clean tech sector already boasts national revenue of $29 billion a year, and a workforce of 53,000 people. Sydney is is simply ensuring that the progress continues. The city is the host to the University of New South Wales, Centre for Low Carbon Living and the Green Building Council of Australia. In addition, Sydney sponsors and partially funds incubators like ATP who assist new clean tech enterprises bringing products to market. And then there’s the money. Many of the leading green investment firms are already headquartered in Sydney attracted by the prospect of a rapidly growing green economy.
